Have you ever hired an erosion control subcontractor to install silt fence and they did not trench and install the bottom portion of the fabric 8 inches below grade? The results can be both environmentally harmful and very expensive. Storm water runoff will begin to work its way down site collecting any loose sediment particles to the lowest point of the project. Once the storm water runoff and sediment hit the improperly installed silt fence, the water flows under the barrier and your left with a mess off site or worse, in a protected area/wetland.
You have now paid a subcontractor to install an erosion control device improperly. You now have to pay someone to clean up the mess, and once again you have to pay an erosion control company to come in and install it the proper way. Picking a qualified contractor the first time would have saved time and money.
